I have a ton of different fly
boxes that I carry in different vests and packs. From expensive Wheately's to combinations of modern foam and
clips. But the best fly box I have found especially for smaller flies, soft hackles, midges and little nymphs
can be had for only one dollar. Yes, that's right for one dollar. I must be kidding...right! No, I'm
not and it's not sold in fly shops because if it were it would probably be priced at $4 to $6 or even
more.
Here's a photo of the fly box that I'm talking about:
This fly box was purchased at Dollar Tree, one of those dollar stores
that dot the American landscape. It's really a seven day pill box. It's made of hard plastic and each
day of the week has a snap compartment. The fly box will fit in just about any pocket of any vest or pack and
you can stack a few of them. The box is rugged, takes up little space, holds the flies, in separte
compartments and really does hold a large number of small flies. The fly box measures around 3 1/4 inches in
diameter and less than 1 inch in depth. And they even come in different colors so you can code certain flies
in different color boxes!
You can't put real large flies in the boxes but for smaller nymphs,
midges, dry flies etc. they are absolutely great. Here's what the brand name is on the package;
it's called Assured:
I've used these little boxes for a number of season they are
really light weight and are absoultely great for summer trico and midge fishing because they hold lots of flies
separately and take up little space. You can put 4 of these in a little chest pack with some tippet
material, shot, forceps, hook sharpener etc. and have everything you need for a summer's day fishing etc.
These boxes are especially good for soft hackles.
Well I'll be waiting to see how many fly anglers use these boxes and whether this article is stolen
by the so called expert's on the net......but for one dollar you can't go wrong!
